what is eq?
EQ stands for emotional quotient, and similarly to IQ (intelligence quotient), it can be measured through testing competencies of various emotional skills as outlined by the original proponents of EQ testing and understanding: Dr Peter Salovey of Yale and Dr John Mayer of the University of New Hampshire. In business, it’s becoming more interesting for employers to understand the EQ of their employees as it can help outline a person’s leadership and self-motivation abilities.
The 3 main pillars of emotional quotient are: self-awareness, interpersonal skills, and social skills. Each of these represents skills that are valuable in the workplace: motivation, communication, and leadership. The testing process involves answering questions that will provide insight to your behavioral characteristics. The test results then break down your score in 9 areas:
- Stress tolerance
- Mental strength
- Interpersonal awareness
- Interpersonal relationships
- Social awareness
- Situational analysis
- Leadership skills
Part 1 – Understanding Your Test Results
Before the seminar, you will be given a link to the EQ test and you’ll answer 250 questions that provide insight to your behaviors and how they align with the 3 intelligences. The test takes about 30 minutes, and the results will look something like this:
In the first part of the course we explain the fundamentals of emotional intelligence and hand out participant test results. We’ll go over each section of the test so everyone can understand how to read the results.
Part 2 – Developing an Action Plan for Self-Improvement
We split the class into groups and have participants share their test results with others and exchange advice based on their results. Based on the feedback from the group discussions, each participant will then develop their own action plan to improve the areas in which they scored low.
Next seminar: Thursday, February 16, 2017 9:30am-1:00pm
Cost: 15,000 JPY
*Participants are sent a link to the test to take a week beforehand.
